UCLA Book Fair -- Tory and Friend Expose Scientology's Frauds / Scams
My critic friend and I headed out for our once a year "UCLA Book
Fair" today for the 3rd year in a row. We call it a "Silent
Picket" as that's how it feels: No signs, just walking and talking
with people about Scientology, why I left, and their abuses, etc.
It's a wonderful fair with all of the book stores from all over Los
Angeles there, and truly wonderful people!
He always wears his "Scientology Kills" T-shirt, and we
basically just walk around and educate people, and hear their stories,
too.
Today was a gorgeous day -- warm, sunny, really pretty.
Each year we're amazed at the positive response to his t-shirt
"SCIENTOLOGY KILLS". Today was no different, in fact I think
this year he got more "Hi-5's" and "I love your
t-shirt" responses than any earlier year.
In years past, Scientology has been pretty spread out, all around the
fair. Today they seemed to be pretty close together.
Bridge (Scientology's phony publishing company where they try to act
just like a real publishing company, however they only publish Hubbard's
books) was right next to Celebrity Center. (They had their fiction booth
not far away, and Applied Scholastics [another Scientology fake front -flr]
didn't come this year).
The CC staff were doing the stress tests. As we walked by, I guess a
Dad's son had just done the stress test, and was sort of hooked -- a bit.
The Dad saw my friend's shirt, and began talking to him. As he did, I
heard a bunch of kids yell: "XENU!" (the back of the shirt has
http://www.xenu.net) and laugh -- so I
stopped and talked with them, telling them about my experiences and giving
each of them a card with the Critical Web sites on it. They were very
pleased. This was all in front of the Bridge table and Celebrity Center.
Ok, so the Dad and my friend called me over, with their son.
I talked to him about my experiences and told him that I knew those very
Scientologists just a few feet away, but IF I were to go talk with them,
they'd rather spit on me than talk with me.
I asked him: "Do you honestly want to join any group that
would treat you like that, IF you left? He shook his head emphatically,
"NO".
This kind of thing went on all day long, person after person, thanking
either my friend, or myself, or both of us, and many writing down where
to get that T-Shirt from. Also, many have their own stories they want
to tell us.
We went in and out of many booths, enjoying the books, and buying some,
too. I went and heard an author speak, which was great, too.
Finally we decided to end the day with a delicious dinner with some
friends. No matter where we went, people commented on his shirt. The
waiter said, "Nice shirt, man".
If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend doing a Silent Picket. You
can really do it anywhere there are volumes of people. We choose the
book fair as we know there are very educated people there, in general,
and people wanting to learn ALL of the facts.
You can get the t-shirt at Cafe Press. My friend will post where, or
I'll find out from him.
Also, if you do it, make up some cards with the Key web sites on it,
so you can hand them out. They are VERY popular, too.
All the best :)
