Larry Wollersheim : Then and Now

Last night I had another wonderful party. Many delightful people Came. One of my friends had called and said Larry (Wollersheim) was interested in coming to my party. Since I’ve left C of S, I’ve had the great pleasure of meeting almost all of the “Big SP’s” in OSA’s book, if not all of them.

To my great surprise, one for one, they’ve been incredibly wonderful people! One person I hadn’t contacted was Larry Wollersheim. I have to explain that I wasn’t sure how I’d react to Larry, as I had been active in his court case some 20 years ago, always felt he was sort of a “Con man”, and still considered he might be the same way. I was happy to hear he had won his case against C of S, but wondered how we might get along. Bill Yaude had spent years laughing at “Wolly” and joking about him, so the Black PR was deep in my head, even still.

I was thrilled to hear he was coming, even though I wasn’t sure how it would go. I have to say it was one of the most amazing transformations I’ve ever seen. Larry is one of the most together people due to this experience. One of Hubbard’s quotes I always liked was, “Turn motion to your advantage”. (Sorry about the quote, but I’ve yet to learn another that says that).

Larry has totally done that.

The last time I saw Larry was in the courtroom, in 1985 here in LA. He looked rather dark then, seemed to be struggling a great deal (who wouldn’t be?) and of course OSA was right there filling in all the ‘holes’ with as much Black PR as they could find. I had my “Dime” they’d made up, for the “Not one thin Dime for Wollersheim”. For years, until I left, he was a constant conversation. “Has Larry Given up?” “No, but the money is tied up”. Having not seen him or heard from him since, I had no idea what to expect.

In contrast, now 20 years later, up walks this much younger looking, quite handsome, smiling, bright person. We hugged, and he walked in to hear many “Larry!!!” greetings. (((He had asked me not to tell anyone for security reasons, so I hadn’t. I’d told people someone was coming, a surprise guest. No one thought it was Larry)).

Many of us were on staff together at Celebrity Center…as was Larry. So he was quite a familiar face to many of us. To the others, they’ve certainly read about him, and were also happy to meet him. As we chatted, he began to tell us of his transformation. He mentioned it’s not just about healing; it’ s about full transformation. He truly had some wonderful words of wisdom (and Yaude…you pale in comparison, dood). This man has grown SO Much despite the cults endless harassment of him. Truly, he has used all of that to literally change his entire self.

It’s difficult to explain, but he is extremely strong, loving, confident, understanding. He cares, he’s grown a great deal, and we all loved talking with him! One of the greatest things is he has learned all of these amazing lessons. We all enjoyed hearing them.

As he said, “If you talk with Yaude, tell him thank you for helping move my case along”. (I explained there’s no way Bill will talk with me, but I can post it on ARS, which we both agreed was Ok). Yaude will think he is being sarcastic, but he wasn’t. He meant it!

Due to all of this, and all of the help he had from Margaret Singer, and some others, he has been able to grow a great deal. Also I will just add this, in closing, he wasn’t just hyping it. He was for real. We could all feel the changes he has gone through, and how far he has taken it was quite something.

OSA? You have seriously screwed up with this person. I could not help but sit in amazement at how far this “SP” had grown, and C of S has shrunk So much in the same time.

It was a joy and an honor to re-meet you, Larry, and I personally cannot thank you enough for all that you have done to fight this fight, and continue to transcend while doing so.
